What is a countdown calculator?

A countdown calculator shows the exact time between this moment and a future event. BrightTools calculates from absolute timestamps, then separates the result into total days plus hours, minutes and seconds.

How to create an online countdown

Choose New Year, Christmas, Halley's Comet return or Custom Event. For a custom event, enter an optional name, a real calendar date, a time and an IANA time zone. Start the countdown to validate the fields, then copy, share, download an ICS calendar file or open a fullscreen view.

Birthdays, exams and trips

Use Custom Event for a birthday, examination, flight, trip, product launch or any other future date. New Year and Christmas presets find the next occurrence in the time zone you choose, including the correct year when this year’s event has already passed. Halley's Comet return targets 28 July 2061.

How time zones affect a countdown

A local date and clock time are converted with the browser’s IANA time-zone data. This applies the offset in effect on that date, including daylight saving changes. A local time that does not exist during a spring-forward transition is rejected instead of being silently moved.

Privacy and reopening the page

When you reopen a page, the countdown is calculated again from the current instant. Custom share links contain only the validated event name, date, time, time zone and display precision. All calculations and calendar generation run locally; event values are not sent to a server or analytics.

How do I create a custom countdown?

Choose Custom Event, enter a valid future date and time, select an IANA time zone and press Start Countdown.

Will the countdown keep running after I close the page?

No. It recalculates when the page is open or becomes visible again. A closed browser tab cannot reliably run a reminder.

Can I share a countdown?

Yes. Share creates a URL containing only the validated event name, date, time, time zone and display precision.

How do I add a countdown to my calendar?

Use Add to Calendar to download a local .ics file. Nothing is uploaded.

Does the countdown support different time zones?

Yes. Enter an IANA zone such as Asia/Shanghai, America/New_York or Europe/London. The browser applies the correct offset and daylight saving rules.

Is my event information uploaded to a server?

No. Calculations, URL creation and calendar generation happen locally. Event values are not sent to analytics.
