How to convert HEIC images
- Drop .heic or .heif files into the upload area, or choose several files with the browse button.
- Choose JPG, PNG or WebP. JPG and WebP start at 85% quality; JPG also lets you pick the color behind transparent pixels.
- Select Convert all, review each status, dimensions and size change, then download individual results or the local ZIP.
What are HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF is a modern image container. HEIC is the common extension for a HEIF image compressed with HEVC, which is why iPhones can store photos at a smaller size than JPEG. A HEIC file can also contain thumbnails, depth data, an image sequence or a Live Photo companion. This tool reads the primary still image and creates a new standard image file.
How to convert an iPhone HEIC photo to JPG
Add the photo directly from Photos, Files or your camera roll. Keep JPG selected for broad compatibility, choose a background color if the source has transparency, and press Convert all. The local decoder handles HEIC/HEIF bytes even when the browser has no native HEIC support.
JPG, PNG or WebP: which should you choose?
JPG is the safest choice for email, Windows apps and photo sharing. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, but can be larger. WebP is a practical web format that supports transparency and often produces a smaller file. JPG and WebP use lossy encoding; PNG preserves the decoded pixels.
Batch conversion for HEIC photos
Select as many files as your device can comfortably process. The queue decodes and encodes one image at a time, so a damaged or unsupported file is reported without stopping the rest. Duplicate names receive a numbered suffix in the ZIP and in individual downloads.
Why local conversion is more private
The decoder and encoder run in a worker and canvas in your browser. No upload endpoint or silent server fallback exists. This keeps personal photos on your device and avoids putting file names, pixels or metadata into analytics.
HEIC compatibility on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android
The converter works in current desktop and mobile browsers with JavaScript and WebAssembly enabled. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari use the bundled local decoder, so native HEIC support is not required. Very large images still depend on available device memory. A browser can download the result even when its photo viewer cannot open the original HEIC.
Metadata, HDR, Live Photos and multi-image HEIC limits
A new JPG, PNG or WebP is rendered from decoded RGBA pixels. EXIF, GPS, HDR transfer data, color profiles, depth maps, thumbnails, editing history and the original HEIF container are removed. A file with multiple top-level images is converted as its primary image; the list explicitly says “Only the primary image was converted.” Live Photo motion and its paired video are not exported.
Output format comparison
| Format | Compatibility | Transparency | File size | Best for | Lossy? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Very wide | No; choose a background | Usually small for photos | Sharing and legacy apps | Yes |
| PNG | Very wide | Yes | Often larger | Graphics and lossless detail | No |
| WebP | Modern browsers and apps | Yes | Often smaller on the web | Websites and modern sharing | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Choose HEIC or HEIF files, keep JPG selected, choose a background color if needed, and select Convert all. The JPG is generated locally.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
Yes. Add a batch and the controlled queue handles each file independently. Successful results can be downloaded as a ZIP.
Are my HEIC photos uploaded?
No. The WebAssembly decoder, canvas encoder and ZIP writer run locally. Nothing is posted to a conversion service.
Will converting HEIC reduce image quality?
JPG and WebP are lossy and start at 85% quality, which you can change. PNG is lossless for the decoded pixels; metadata that is not exported cannot be restored.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF is the container family. HEIC normally means a HEIF image using HEVC compression. Both extensions are accepted after the file signature is checked.
Should I choose JPG, PNG or WebP?
Use JPG for compatibility and photos, PNG for lossless transparency, and WebP for a modern web image that is often smaller.
Does the converter preserve EXIF and GPS metadata?
No. New canvas exports remove EXIF, GPS, HDR, profiles and other container metadata. Keep the original if you need them.
Can it convert iPhone Live Photos?
It converts the primary still image only. The motion component and paired video are not exported.
