How to use

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP photo, drag it into the tool, paste it from the clipboard or use your camera. The image stays on your device.
  2. Select a common size or enter a custom size and DPI. Drag, zoom, rotate and flip the preview until the head and shoulders sit on the non-binding guide lines.
  3. Pick a background, make light adjustments if needed, then choose JPEG, PNG or WebP and an optional maximum file size. Review the real output dimensions and bytes before downloading.
  4. Use the print layout section to place copies on 4×6, 5×7, A4 or Letter paper. Print at 100% and measure a sample before submitting.

Common ID photo sizes

BrightTools includes China 1-inch and 2-inch references, 35×45 mm, 40×50 mm, US 2×2 inch, square digital and resume presets. Physical sizes use pixels = round(mm ÷ 25.4 × DPI). Presets are practical references, not an official guarantee.

Photo-taking tips

Use even, front-facing light, a plain background and a natural expression. Keep the head and shoulders inside the guides, avoid strong shadows and check that hair, glasses and the chin are not cropped. Some authorities prohibit obvious retouching.

Local privacy by design

Your image is decoded, cropped, adjusted, composited and encoded in this browser. The tool does not upload photos, save face data or include original EXIF/GPS metadata in Canvas exports. Camera permission is requested only after you choose the camera button.

Before you submit

Country, visa, school and exam requirements can change. Confirm the latest official dimensions, background, head-height and file-size rules with the target institution. This page never promises acceptance.

Good to know

Checks and composition guides are helpful hints, not an official approval. Requirements differ by country and institution. Background removal uses a local colour-key fallback and may need manual review around hair, glasses or similar colours.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an ID photo online?

Choose a photo, select a size, adjust the crop and background, then export JPEG, PNG or WebP. All image work happens in this browser.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Image decoding, cropping, adjustments, background compositing and export happen locally. The tool does not send photos or face data to a server.

How do I change the background to white, blue or red?

Choose White, Blue or Red in the Background section. You can also use light gray, transparent or a custom HEX colour.

Which ID photo sizes are supported?

Presets include China 1-inch, large 1-inch, small 2-inch, 2-inch, 35×45 mm, 40×50 mm, US 2×2 inch, square digital and resume photos, plus custom units.

How do I make a 35×45 mm photo?

Select the 35 × 45 mm preset, keep or change the DPI, compose the portrait and export. Confirm the latest requirements of the receiving authority.

How do I make a 2×2 inch passport photo?

Select US 2 × 2 inch. The tool converts the physical size to pixels using mm ÷ 25.4 × DPI and shows the exact output dimensions.

Can I compress an ID photo to a target file size?

Yes. Choose a maximum such as 20, 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB. The encoder tries a finite list of qualities and reports the actual bytes; PNG may need JPEG or WebP for a smaller file.

Can I make an ID photo on my phone?

Yes. Mobile browsers support the photo picker, paste, touch dragging and camera capture when the browser grants permission.

How do I put photos on 4×6 inch paper?

Export one photo, choose 4 × 6 in photo paper in Print layout, set margins and gaps, review the calculated count, then download JPEG or a true-size PDF.

Why is my printed photo the wrong size?

Print at Actual size or 100% and disable Fit to page. Printer margins and paper handling can introduce small differences, so measure a sample with a ruler.

Does the photo check mean my photo is officially approved?

No. It is an auxiliary browser check and cannot verify every government, school or exam rule. Always check the latest official instructions.

Will a retouched photo pass a passport or visa review?

No guarantee is possible. Some authorities prohibit obvious retouching. Use truthful edits only and confirm the current rules before submitting.
